Our Acoustic Solutions
Our firm focuses on architectural acoustic solutions, supporting projects nationwide, whether they are new builds or renovations. What separates us from other rep firms is our perspective and line package. We cover all three core approaches to managing sound including absorption, blocking, and sound masking, helping ensure the right acoustic solutions are applied to each space to address its unique acoustical challenges.
The ABC’s Of Acoustics
Understanding the fundamentals of acoustics starts with what we often refer to as the “ABCs” of sound management: absorption, blocking, and cover. Each plays a distinct role in shaping how a space sounds and functions. Absorption controls echo and reverberation within a space, blocking limits sound transfer between areas, and cover introduces a consistent background sound to reduce distractions and improve speech privacy.
While certain acoustic solutions may be more effective for specific challenges, the best acoustical environments are often achieved through a thoughtful combination of these solutions. By understanding how these approaches work individually and together, we can apply the right strategy to create spaces that sound as good as they look.
Absorption
What is Absorption Material?
Absorption materials are used to reduce reverberation and excess noise by capturing sound energy before it reflects back into a space. By introducing acoustic solutions such as wall panels, ceiling panels, baffles, and ceiling tiles, absorption helps control reverberation, improve speech clarity, and create a more comfortable and functional environment. Without proper absorption, environments can feel uncomfortably loud, make it difficult to understand speech, or both. These solutions are used across nearly every built environment, including offices, healthcare, education, industrial, and hospitality, where similar acoustical challenges are common.
Impact Acoustics
An innovative and sustainability focused acoustical treatment manufacturer offering both traditional PET and natural materials, including cotton and mushroom based panels. Impact’s strongest value proposition is their commitment to sustainability, supported by seven certifications, including Cradle to Cradle. Their product offering spans a wide range of solutions, including wall and ceiling panels, baffles, acoustic lighting, space dividers, and more.
FACT
An artist driven acoustical ceiling system that uses origami inspired folding to create designs that can range from subtle texture to bold, sculptural statements. Designed specifically for integration within the ceiling grid, FACT systems are coordinated around elements such as sprinklers, lighting, and other ceiling devices. They can also incorporate integrated lighting and are compatible with a wide range of ceiling grid systems, ensuring a cohesive solution that is fully thought through rather than left to field coordination.
Project Execution
While their product line is impressive, their services are what truly set them apart. Impact offers parametric design, acoustical analysis, and lighting calculations, allowing them to deliver a complete, coordinated solution. This approach provides confidence that the final result will align with the design intent while performing as expected acoustically.
Once the design is finalized, we coordinate with a trusted local service provider to deliver a turnkey solution, ensuring a seamless transition from concept through installation.
Blocking
What is Blocking Material?
Sound blocking refers to the use of materials and assemblies designed to prevent sound from traveling from one space to another. Unlike absorption, which controls sound within a room, blocking focuses on isolating sound between adjacent areas to improve privacy and reduce noise transfer.
The effectiveness of a blocking system is commonly measured by its STC, or Sound Transmission Class rating. STC is a standardized rating that indicates how well a wall or partition reduces airborne sound, particularly speech. Higher STC ratings correspond to greater sound isolation, meaning less noise passes through the assembly.
When properly specified, these acoustic solutions they can achieve STC ratings comparable to traditional construction, while offering a more elevated aesthetic and enhanced design flexibility compared to typical drywall assemblies.
Muraflex
Muraflex combines beautiful Italian design paired with some of the highest independently tested acoustic performance in the industry. Their demountable wall systems are engineered to achieve strong STC ratings, helping effectively limit sound transfer between spaces while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic.
What truly sets Muraflex apart is the level of design control they offer. With a wide range of finish options, glass types, and door configurations, their systems can be tailored to achieve exactly the look and feel a project requires. From minimal, all glass fronts to more framed or custom expressions, the final result can be dialed in to align with the overall design intent rather than feeling like a standard partition system.
This combination of high performance and design flexibility allows teams to create spaces that not only meet acoustical requirements but also elevate the overall aesthetic of the environment.
Project Execution
While Muraflex is known for its design and performance, their ability to support projects from concept through specification is what truly sets them apart. Their team works closely with the design team to ensure the system is detailed exactly as intended while meeting required STC performance.
Once the design is finalized, we coordinate with local certified dealers to provide pricing and execute the project, ensuring a seamless transition from concept through installation.
Cover
What is Sound Masking?
Sound Masking is a speaker system – often called “white noise” – that raises a space’s ambient background sound to create speech privacy, meaning you can speak at a normal volume without being understood by those nearby. With a properly tuned system, conversation becomes difficult to comprehend beyond about 15 feet or through walls like those in private offices, exam rooms, or conference rooms.
Beyond privacy, sound masking also reduces distractions and boosts productivity, as occupants feel more confident their conversations are protected and experience fewer interruptions.
Many systems can also be expanded to include background music and paging capabilities – making them a complete acoustic solution for lobbies, break rooms, restrooms, facility-wide announcements, and more – consolidating everything into one simple, cost-effective system.
