What is Sound Masking?
Sound masking is a speaker system (commonly referred to as “white noise”) which raises the ambient background sound of a space to create “speech privacy”. Speech privacy is obtained when you feel comfortable speaking at a normal tone of voice and your conversation cannot be understood by those around you.
With a properly tuned sound masking system, conversational speech becomes very difficult to understand once you’re about 15 feet away from someone or when on the other side of a wall such as inside a private office, examination or conference room.
Speakers are typically installed above the ceiling tile, hidden from your view, and generate a sound that sounds like the air conditioner is running.
